Learning how to live without pain

Yoga therapy helps students relearn their experience of their bodies, and find joy and ease in peaceful, pain-free movement. Not to simply accept pain, but to write their own prescription for life. We offer simple, practical help, advice and support – that are easy to integrate into your daily life.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOGA THERAPY AND A REGULAR YOGA CLASS?

Yoga therapy is much slower and more gentle than a regular yoga class. You don’t need any previous experience of yoga to benefit from yoga therapy – it is accessible for all body types and physical abilities.

WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF YOGA THERAPY?

1. To help you reestablish your connection with yourself, so that you are able to hear, analyse and respond to the messages your body is giving you, and to encourage you to introduce simple habits and exercises into your daily life that lead to living contentedly and pain-free (yes, it’s possible).

2. To help you be independently well, not reliant on another person (or pills) for your wellbeing.

3. To remind you of the incredible ability our body has to heal, rejuvenate and thrive, often

OK THIS SOUNDS GREAT, BUT WHAT DOES IN ACTUALLY INVOLVE?

During a one-to-one session, we discuss your issues and goals, and then we use a combination of the following techniques to help you reach your goals and learn how to live pain-free:

  • healthy, pain-free movement
  • breathing techniques
  • meditation
  • mindfulness

I will ask you questions on the nature of your pain, how it affects you, as well as questions about your daily lifestyle – how often you move, rest, your quality of sleep etc – so that I can give you tips and small practices you can easily incorporate into your everyday life immediately. Most students leave the first session feeling lighter and more positive, and often ready to continue the healing process with minimal guidance. Sometimes students need a few more sessions before they feel confident enough to manage their own wellbeing – it’s very individual.

The essence of our work is the principle of Ahimsa, which we interpret as non-harming, and so the intention and action of our practice is to move, breathe and think without causing pain or harm to ourselves, leaving room for healing, and for experiencing joy.

The guiding principle is so simple, but not always easy to follow, since we have become so accustomed to harming ourselves in our modern lives, through over-scheduled days, and a lack of self care, poor nutrition, inadequate sleep and movement patterns.

We need to learn that self-care is not an indulgence or luxury, but a basic necessity and human right. Yoga therapy won’t give us superpowers, but it might help us towards the goal of santosha, or contentment, a deeply undervalued state which is often missing from our modern lives.

WHO MIGHT BENEFIT FROM YOGA THERAPY?

Students with:

  • chronic (long term) pain or injury – typically back pain, shoulder and neck pain, other joint pain and headaches.
  • autoimmune conditions
  • insomnia
  • burnout, overwhelm or stress
  • side effects from oncological treatment
  • a simple need for some quiet space to gather strength or rest.

ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW?

Clients typically feel immediately better and most positive after a session, but the real work begins after they leave the studio. We focus on making manageable changes to your everyday life that allow you to lead and continue the healing process without reliance on others. In short, we want to give you the skills to independently manage your own wellbeing (yes it’s possible!).

HOW DO I GET STARTED?

If you would like to hear more, let’s have a free no-commitment 30 minute yoga therapy consultation to start to discuss how you might live without pain.

WHAT IS THE COST AND HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

I recommend scheduling a free call to discuss whether yoga therapy is appropriate for you, and if we agree to continue, we can schedule an initial consultation. Often, one meeting is enough to set you on the right path for healing, and many clients are already able to independently incorporate changes into their lives that make a difference, without the need for further sessions. We may also agree on several shorter follow up sessions to encourage this integration of change and healing into your life. After 3-6 months, we would typically expect to see progress to the extent that you may not need anything more than an occasional check-in.

– Initial session (70 minutes): 1600kc

– One-off session (70 minutes): 1600kc

– 5 class package (60-70 minute classes): 7000kc

– 30 minute online Zoom check in: 800kc.

Sessions take place at the studio (Borivojova 100, Prague 3), at your home, or at my home studio in Malesice.
